The Surprising Power of Saying No for Now to Reach Your DreamsMay 29, 2023
Do you ever find yourself feeling drained and overwhelmed with all the maybes in your life? The maybes that keep you stuck in a state of indecision, draining your energy and preventing you from reaching your full potential?
I've been there. For years, I found myself in a state of confusion and restlessness during March and April. I could feel it in my gut and see it in my spending habits. I was constantly signing up for new courses and training, searching for inspiration. But the truth was, I was lost in an ocean of unfinished projects and commitments that didn't inspire me.
It was time for a spring clean, a time to reclaim my inspiration and focus on what truly mattered. And it's time for you to do the same.
Step 1: Do a Brain Dump
Grab a piece of paper and write down everything you're currently up to in life. Write the things you also feel you should be doing and taking action on. Get it all down on that piece of paper.
Step 2: Make Three Columns
Grab another piece of paper and draw three columns: "Yes," "No," and "Maybe."
Step 3: Identify Your Yeses and No's
Take a look at your list and identify what truly excites and inspires you and aligns with your goals and values. These are your yeses. On the other hand, identify what doesn't align with your goals and values or what drains your energy. These are your no's. Don't let that inner voice make you feel that it should be a yes. Put it where it belongs. It's A NO when it drains your energy.
Step 4: Empty Out Your Maybes
Now, take a look at your maybe column. Be honest with yourself and identify what can be turned into a yes or a no. Don't hold onto things that don't truly align with your goals and values. If it's not an absolute yes, then it's a no for now.
Step 5: Embrace Saying No for Now
It's okay to say no for now. Remember that every no is a step closer to the right yes. Don't let indecision drain your energy and hold you back from reaching your full potential.
Step 6: Practice Saying No for Now
You will have your personal version of saying no. Here is how I say no for now.
“... and right now, at this moment in time, I can't give it 100%. And if less than 100% it's not going to be the best that we could possibly create. So I´m saying no for now.”
Step 6: Make Room for Your Dreams
By clearing out the maybes and embracing saying no for now, you're making room for your biggest dreams. Focus on what truly matters, and don't be afraid to let go of what doesn't align with your goals and values. You'll be surprised how much more energized and motivated you'll feel.
