Finding Yourself: The Inner Journey

Feb 29, 2024

Ever felt like you're just going through the motions, chasing one goal after another without really feeling satisfied? I know that feeling all too well. It's like running endlessly on a treadmill, aiming for success but somehow ending up in the same place.

Let me tell you a story. In 2014, I was at a turning point in my career. From the outside, everything seemed great—I was traveling the world, meeting important people, and earning a great salary. But inside, I felt empty and confused, and I didn't understand why. That's when I hit pause and started searching for something, anything, that could point me in the right direction. I stumbled upon some thought-provoking questions from Vishet Lakhiani on YouTube that changed my perspective. Now, I'm passing these questions on to you, hoping they'll help you as much as they helped me.

What experiences do I want to have?

Life is really about the experiences we have, yet we often get too caught up in our routines to think about what we truly want to experience. Not just achievements for our resumes, but the moments that fill us with joy and satisfaction.

So, what experiences would give your life more meaning? Maybe it's starting your own business, learning a new skill, climbing a mountain, speaking at TedX, or traveling the world with your family. What experiences would make you look back and think, “That was a life powerfully lived”?

Who do I need to become?

Who do you need to be to live the life you dream of? Consider where you need to grow. Maybe you need more confidence to start your business, or perhaps you want to be someone who embraces fun. Imagine yourself having these experiences. Are you more outspoken? Confident? If you see yourself as a speaker, where do you need to improve? Maybe take speaking lessons? How about the person who decides to travel the world for a year with their family?

Growth is so much more than you might think. It's about broadening our emotional, intellectual, and spiritual horizons. It's about becoming the version of ourselves that can match our vision, who inspires you when you think about what that version of yourself would do, be, the decisions they would make.

What impact do I want to make?

We all have something special to offer, a unique contribution that can make a difference. Knowing what impact you want to make can turn your job into your calling.

Consider this: What kind of legacy do you want to leave? Whether it's inspiring others, being a pioneer in your field, or spreading kindness, your impact is how you'll be remembered.

A story of change

Osen Iyahen  wanted to experience making a significant and tangible impact on marginalized communities, particularly in Nigeria and Africa, through her foundation, Optimal Greening Foundation (OGF) (Osen´s story Embarking on Your Mission: The Journey Begins. To have that experience Osen had to become a multifaceted individual, combining leadership, empathy, resilience, and knowledge to drive her mission forward and achieve her goals of improving the lives of marginalized communities in Nigeria and Africa. Amongst many things she needed to become someone who could withstand setbacks and persist in the face of adversity. The challenges of bringing clean water and sanitation facilities to a remote community would have required immense perseverance and resilience. What was her impact? The creation of a lasting legacy that transcends her immediate achievements to inspire and enable broader societal change

Your exploration of untapped potential and possibilities

As we wrap up, I encourage you to really think about these questions. Write down your thoughts, discuss them with someone you trust, or just reflect on them alone. The secret to discovering your untapped potential and transforming your life is in your answers. It all starts with the courage to ask, to search, and to dream.

To all the dreamers and doers out there, remember, you're not on this journey alone. I'm right here with you, exploring and discovering. Together, we can go beyond our limits, forge new paths, and embark on a journey of true discovery.

Here's to finding your true self and embracing the growth ahead. No matter where you are on your path, remember, it's not about fitting in; it's about discovering who you are and living a life true to your deepest values.

Until next time, keep asking questions, keep evolving, and keep leaving your mark. The world is waiting for the unique light only you can shine.
